I managed to weasel my way into directing the one 16mm short being produced by our year at uni.

We just finished shooting this friday, and here's a behind the scenes montage.

I applaud you for not shooting in your mate's kitchen, and for building a set instead.

The synopsis doesn't really get me wet. Where are the zombies?! :-)

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Well, they had to give the production designers on our course something to do. [img]tongue.gif[/img] Also, since we'd be fucking it up good and proper, it was just easier to build a set.

The only problem was that we couldn't afford to build the entire flat, so we built about two thirds of it, shot everything facing that way, then moved the walls around and shot the other way. Absolute pain in the ass.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I didn't write it, otherwise there'd be undead crawling all over this fucker. This is the first thing I've made that has precisely zero humour, which was the scariest thing about it.

I can't say the trailer gets me wet either - I've already been through the whole Sex & Death phase 10 years ago before realising sex was more interesting. Shit, actually it was nearly 15 years ago. I'm older than I think :-(

Though I do have an unmistakable urge to go watch Alien.

Seems to have a very nice production quality. I'm a sucker for indies actually trying to light a scene - so kudos!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">To tell you the truth, I wasn't that bothered about it to begin with either.

It's not that it was a bad script (it was actually very well written... almost Lovecraftian in it's prose), it's just I wanted to do something which wasn't horror related.

Alas, I didn't get the director gig I wanted, so I was resigned to doing the sound design on the flick. Then the director of Psychosis had to drop out, and since I really wanted to direct something, I went for, and got, this.

And that Aliens trailer is awesome... hence my stealing of it's audio wholesale.

We were very much against the clock due to starting 5 and half hours late on the first day (fucking uni bastards) and this was the first time I've directed a film with a DP, writer, editor and producer that wasn't me.

I think I made some mistakes.
